About the Breed:
PERSONALITY:
Expressive, intelligent, affectionate, and adaptable- the Italian Spinone is a loyal and companionable, family-motivated canine.
ORIGIN:
Italian in ancestry, the Spinone was originally bred for its strong endurance in hunting versatility within virtually all climates and terrain settings--both field and stream--skillful in scenting and tracking, pointing and retrieving alike.
PURPOSE:
Italian Spinoni are known for their learner-readiness and willingness to train not only as sporting dogs, but also as patient-friendly, empathetic therapy dogs.
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE:
Beneath an armoring of thick skin covered in dense, wiry hair (either flat or crimped), stands the Italian Spinone--solid and square in stature. Round and expressive ochre (yellowish-brown) eyes accent the elongated, oval-shaped head which gently slopes on either side. Attached is a square muzzle and powerful jaw, along with a bulbous and spongy nose. Defining details include the Spinone's eyebrows, mustache, and tufted beard. Also marking this breed is its thick muscular neck, lending its way to a likewise muscular, broad, and well-rounded chest area. The Italian Spinone showcases an array of coloration--solid white, white and orange, orange roan with or without orange markings, white and brown, or brown roan with or without brown markings.
